About Laurene

My Mission

I help early childhood teachers rediscover the joy and power of nature-based play. Through professional development workshops, resources, and one-on-one consulting, I guide educators in creating outdoor learning experiences that support children's emotional, social, and cognitive development.
Because when children play in nature, they grow into human beings who care—for themselves, for each other, and for the planet.

My Story

With over 30 years of experience—as a teacher, center director, college instructor, and early childhood specialist—I’ve seen firsthand how powerful outdoor play can be. I founded and led my own center for 10 years and taught in Head Start programs, public schools, and universities across Illinois and Kentucky.

Nature has always been my co-teacher. Whether it's through loose parts play, outdoor art, or quiet moments under the trees, I've watched children blossom when given the freedom to explore.

Now, I travel to schools and centers to inspire the next generation of educators to bring nature into their teaching.

Because the children of today will create a kinder world—a world of peace, generosity, love for the planet, and love for one another.

Why Nature Matters

Nature is more than a backdrop—it’s a living, breathing classroom. Research shows that outdoor play improves mental health, builds social skills, fosters creativity, and deepens children’s understanding of the world. It supports every domain of early development.

When we prioritize time outside, we aren’t just creating fun, we’re cultivating future scientists, leaders, artists, and compassionate human beings.
